Here’s the latest…

  • Sneak Peak

There are just a couple of days left to see the Cashing Out! window display at 826 Valencia.
On Wednesday we’ll switch out the window for a new topic of conversation. The focus this time will be on Dolores Park.

    Here’s a sneak peak of what’s coming…

  • Can I Rent That?

A funny thing we learned is that our newest window installation at 826 Valencia called Cashing Out!  had passers-by coming into the store and asking if there was an apartment for rent. It took awhile for the staff at the store to figure out what was going on. Apparently the poster listing apartment-for-rent signs had people a little confused. In a city where a one-bedroom apartment can easily go for over $3000 per month, it’s just too temping not to ask.

  • Window Wars

Well not exactly…it’s just in the air.

After installing our new YOUR STORE window display this week we noticed  Paxton Gate’s window  just next door which hints at the ever familiar list of San Francisco’s newsworthy topics. The widow is an incredibly cute satirical snapshot with woodland creatures on mobile devices, critters holding colorful protest signs, construction cones and a bush buck with Google Glasses.

We spoke with Tikka who created the display and she told us that she had been planning to make this window for a little while.  A resident of the neighborhood for 12 years she thought it was important for people to know what is going on here but she also wanted to create a window that  didn’t single specific people out.

We really like the window that Tikka created and we think it makes a nice pairing next to YOUR STORE. We just updated the YOUR STORE window with a new topic called Cashing Out.
You can see both windows at 824 and 826 Valencia Street for the next couple of weeks.

  • Cashing Out!

This weeks special at Your Store is Cashing Out!

The stories we were told about little affordable housing, evictions and the increased cost of living in the Mission district has inspired this weeks window. Witness rent prices go up before your very eyes and view an overflowing cash register spilling cost of living currency. Now in the window at  826 Valencia for the next two weeks!

  • Meet the Mission: Part 2

At the second “Meet the Mission” workshop at 826 Valencia we talked about Dolores Park as a community-gathering place and natural environment in the city. The park offers something for everyone because it’s free, open to everyone and offers many public events and gatherings to people in the community.

Building on the skills the students developed on the first day, the kids worked collaboratively to create plants, shrubs and trees out of cardboard which will become part of the your store window display featuring Dolores park.

The students also created their own currency (because money doesn’t grow on trees).
Many of the things the kids produced in these workshops will be integrated into the Your Store window display that will show at 826 Valencia for two months starting in April 2014.

  • Meet the Mission: Part 1

Earlier this year, we ran a workshop at 826 Valencia called “Meet the Mission” where we talked with kids about city living and how people get around by walking, biking, driving or taking the bus. Some people take the muni, some ride a bus to their office, some ride the bus because they want to reduce pollution or, can’t find a parking space for their car (if they have one)!

    826_Your_Store_02

The kids designed and built their own bus sculptures out of cardboard including a Coke bus, a double decker bus and a flying bus.

Since the window display will ultimately resemble a retail shop we also brainstormed some slogans that might entice people into the store.
    Here are a few gems…

“GET ON THE BUS OR BUY THE BUS”
    “90% SALE”
“BUY 24 and GET ONE 2% OFF”
“HEY YOU! THIS IS THE STORE FOR YOU”
